Jupiter Medical Center, UM Medical School Enter Partnership

Jupiter Medical Center and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine have entered into an affiliation agreement to give the Palm Beach County hospitalaccess the resources available at the university teaching hospital. The companies said the agreement provides greater availability of specialists actively involved in academic and clinical medicine and a streamlined process for patients who may require additional care through the University of Miami Health System. “Affiliation with a world-class teaching and research institution brings new dimensions to JMC and gives our already outstanding physicians many additional resources for diagnosing and treating patients,” Jupiter Medical Center Chief of Staff Dr. Chester Maxson said in a news release. “We look forward to working with UM specialists to continually expand expertise to benefit our patients.”

Florida: Kendall Regional Medical Center Makes Safety List

Kendall Regional Medical Center was the only hospital in South Florida that made Thompson Health’s list of the top 100 hospitals for safety performance. Samford, Conn.-based Thompson Health examined eight patient safety measures in Medicare data from 2001 through 2005. If all U.S. hospitals performed at the same level as its top 100, Thompson said that would have saved 7,914 lives and $253 million during that time. In addition to HCA-owned Kendall Regional, three other Florida hospitals made the list.
