Despite concerns over patient privacy, costs and time constraints, many physicians are encouraging their patients to go online to do things such as check lab results and immunization records, request prescription medical refills, schedule appointments and email their doctors with non-urgent medical questions. Physicians using interactive websites can also provide patients with the convenience of filling out and printing patient history forms on their own computers and reading pre-operative surgical instructions online. Meanwhile, some of the more innovative doctors are blogging, creating educational podcasts and videos and holding virtual surgical consultations.
